Bernie Sanders: DNC Emails ‘Outrageous’ But ‘Not A Shock’
Former Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, in his speech before the Democratic National Convention this week in Philadelphia, will emphasize the agreements he reached with the Hillary Clinton to make her political program “the most progressive” in history, his campaign said Sunday.
Wasserman Schultz has been a lightning rod for criticism throughout the presidential campaign, with Sanders repeatedly accusing the Democratic National Committee of backing Clinton, despite the party officially being neutral.
Bernie Sanders’ claim that Democratic National Committee – and Wasserman Schultz in particular – treated him unfairly as he challenged Clinton for the Dem nomination. “I will open and close the Convention and I will address our delegates about the stakes involved in this election not only for Democrats, but for all Americans”.
President Barack Obama, who installed Wasserman Schultz as DNC leader, and Clinton, each praised the congresswoman for her work in building the party.
The news of Wasserman Schultz’s resignation came as Democratic delegates from the around the world were doing a microphone check inside the Wells Fargo Center, where the convention will be held. “The party leadership must also always remain impartial in the presidential nominating process, something which did not occur in the 2016 race”.
Worth noting is whom Wasserman Schultz replaced at the DNC five years ago: Tim Kaine, who is now Clinton’s running mate. Her leadership of the DNC has meant that we had someone who brought Democrats together not just for my re-election campaign, but for accomplishing the shared goals we have had for our country.
Wikileaks posted an email attributed to DNC chief financial officer Brad Marshall, in which he discussed how some voters in upcoming nominating contests in Kentucky and West Virginia would reject an atheist. “I want to see that incorporated into the Democratic Party”, Sanders said.
“It was concerning last week that Donald Trump changed the Republican platform to become what some experts would regard as pro-Russian”, Mook said.
“The emails just proved what we believed to begin with”, Dora Bouboulis of Vermont told AFP as she marched in a demonstration. Schultz was the co-chair of her 2008 bid for president.
Donna Brazile, a veteran party hand and a DNC vice chairwoman, will serve as the DNC interim chairwoman through the election, DNC spokesman Luis Miranda announced on Twitter.
Wasserman Schultz, who is member of the House of Representatives from South Florida, had decided not speak at the convention.
Darcy Samek, 54, traveled alone from Minneapolis to protest through the four-day convention.
Some of the emails showed that party officials actually worked behind the scenes to discredit his campaign in the eyes of reporters or even raise questions about his Jewish faith – and whether he was an atheist.
The resignation came in the midst of a release of DNC e-mails by Wikileaks which reveal the concerted effort of the DNC to stick it to Bernie Sanders.
Philadelphia’s mayor says he’s not sure if the heat wave baking Philadelphia will lead to smaller crowds at marches and rallies before the Democratic National Convention, but he’s urging people to limit time outdoors.
Hackers stole opposition research on Donald Trump from the DNC’s servers in mid-June.
