Bernie Sanders Finally Endorses Hillary Clinton for President
Hillary Clinton waited months to hear those words-an endorsement from former rival, Bernie Sanders.
It’s a moment that many in the Democratic Party have been waiting for: Clinton and Sanders coming together to show a united front. Sanders has endorsed Clinton for the Democratic nomination for president.
“The candidate who ran against special interests is endorsing the candidate who embodies special interests”, his campaign said in a release. “This campaign is about the needs of the American people and addressing the very serious crises that we face”, he said. WSJ’s Jason Bellini reports.
“Bernie Sanders, who has lost most of his leverage, has totally sold out to Crooked Hillary Clinton”, Trump wrote on Twitter.
Sanders, a feisty self-described democratic socialist, nevertheless had refused to concede defeat to his more moderate rival, although he had said he will vote for Clinton.
Lynch repeatedly said she wouldn’t discuss specifics of the FBI’s investigation. The Democrats spoke on condition of anonymity ahead of Sanders’ formal announcement. “I am somewhat surprised that Bernie Sanders was not true to himself and his supporters”.
“I understand why they were formed but I think at this stage of the game they need to leave because they’re part of the problem not the solution”, said Dioletis. Lynch was the only one who hasn’t decided whether she will back Clinton in the general election. Clinton recently proposed a plan for free tuition at public universities modeled after Sanders’ initiative.
Many of Mr Sanders’ policies have made it into the proposed Democrat manifesto, including a $15-an-hour minimum wage, tougher restrictions on Wall Street and an end to the death penalty. “Thank you for your lifetime of fighting injustice”, she said to Senator Sanders.
Elle Kurpiewski, Office Manager for the Democratic Headquarters of the Desert says not voting is the worst case scenario.
This indicates that he may still head to the convention as previously promised by the campaign, though his impact will be lessened by the endorsement.
