Bernie Sanders gets the Ellen DeGeneres treatment
During Sanders’ appearance on the show, which airs on Thursday, he cut a rug back stage, which was caught on camera while DeGeneres looked on in amusement.
The conversation then turned to the magically disappearing middle-class.
During the interview, filmed on Wednesday, host Ellen DeGeneres and Mr Sanders discussed politics and his comments regarding Hillary Clinton’s emails at the Democratic debate, which had taken place the previous day. The recent Democratic debate featured more discussion of unapologetically progressive ideas than has been the case in the party for a long time, and Sanders – still a relative unknown – was exposed to millions of American voters for the first time.
Sanders also revealed that his favorite One Direction member is “maybe Harry”, and that if he were stranded on a desert island with a Republican presidential candidate, he’d pick Florida Sen.
We learned a few other things about the Democratic presidential hopeful when he was later put on the “hot seat” by the hostess, earning $1,000 for charity for every question he answered honestly.
Sanders told the audience he’s been in many political campaigns and said he’s never resorted to attack ads.
DEGENERES: Yeah, a lot of people like you a lot. “I think people just need to hear you say what you feel”. I don’t know what they, when they think enough is enough.
“Thank you for the very positive energy you provide to the American people”, Sanders replied. He’s been in handcuffs – for “a civil rights demonstration” during his youth, he quickly clarified. “Now I can’t explain to you the mentality of somebody who wants to do that especially people who have so much money”.
