Bernie Sanders & Hillary Clinton Tout Liberal Credentials at Vegas Town Hall
“Not just Sanders, but the Democratic Party, the Republican Party, they should sit down, talk to activists and find out what are the real concerns”. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., left, hugs a culinary worker protesting outside Sunrise Hospital Thursday, Feb. 18, 2016, in Las Vegas.
Democratic presidential candidates Hillary Clinton, left, and Sen.
“The union members I know, they’re all about results”, he told Mother Jones, explaining why he was sure Clinton would win union voters this weekend. Even so, sentiment has shifted among some of Clinton’s best groups.
Sanders is the only candidate in either party who’s viewed as compassionate, honest and likable by at least half of registered voters, giving him a significant advantage over Clinton among all voters on each of those measures.
The Fox News survey has Mr Sanders on 47 per cent among likely voters and Ms Clinton trailing three points behind on 44 per cent. He must maintain his own constituency and win over her rival’s, Hillary Clinton.
The poll also found that a vast majority of Democrats, 72 percent, believe Sanders is “realistic enough” to serve as president despite repeated attacks by the Clinton campaign that his policies on healthcare and subsidized public college tuition are a pipe dream.
Clinton has made her electability a core argument in her case against Sanders, with her allies suggesting that the self-proclaimed democratic socialist is unlikely to withstand the scrutiny of a general election campaign. But what about residents of that house? In contrast, by drawing crowds of 20,000 to rallies and attracting enthusiastic volunteers to the cause, the Bernie Sanders campaign has palpable energy that would translate to strong voter turnout, the type that would extinguish any Republican Party negativism.
“We are doing well with young people, we are doing increasingly well with young African Americans, young Latinos”, Sanders said.
Clinton has racked up endorsements from 23 national unions, gaining their organizational clout and pull with members.
However, Clinton is beating Sanders 65 percent to 24 percent among self-described Democrats likely to vote in the S.C. primary on Saturday.
Both candidates are working to woo minority voters, a key plank of the Democratic party, ahead of Saturday’s Nevada caucuses. “But she’d never say she’s going to break up the big banks”. “She never gave up, she didn’t run from a fight and that’s what unions are all about”. On Thursday, several high profile Latino leaders not only endorsed Clinton, but accused Sanders of being on the wrong side of their issues.
The outcome here could hinge on the state’s pivotal Hispanic vote, which is why the Clinton campaign released a minute-long ad featuring the 10-year-old daughter of undocumented immigrants. “I’ve got everything for Hillary Clinton”. “I think he has done a great job in many respects”, he said. “Not only did I vote against all of these disastrous trade agreements, I’m helping lead the effort today” against the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal. However, women under 30 favored Sanders by a 40-point margin.
Sanders also said that African Americans had been more gravely affected than most communities from the recession that blitzed the USA economy in 2008.
