Bernie Sanders Pledges to Make History in Nevada
Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign as a voter and as a Democratic superdelegate.
Also on the Sanders front: A spokesman says Sanders doesn’t “believe that gender should be the reason we vote for or against anyone”.
U.S. Rep. Peter Welch says he’ll support Sen.
“I have a feeling, folks”, he said to more than 2,000 people gathered for a concert and rally in Henderson on Friday night. “And the regeneration of democracy requires the renewal that comes with younger people coming in, so that’s a good thing”. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), who serves as the top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, has endorsed Hillary Clinton for president.
Welchs declaration of support for Sanders is the first to come from a high-profile Vermont politician.
The only other member of the Vermont congressional delegation apart from Sanders and Welch won’t be voting for his home-state colleague. Sen.
“What this campaign is essentially about”, Sanders said, in closing in Henderson, “is whether they have a political system… controlled by a handful of billionaires… or whether we have an economic and political system that is controlled by ordinary Americans”. Id never break my word, Leahy said at a press conference this week.
If the Democratic Party is to regain the White House this November, it needs to unify behind a candidate who has the proven skills and experience to lead this nation and who has the popular support necessary win the election.
We have been friends for years and have worked together on issues of great importance to Vermont, Sanders said in a statement. “His support means a great deal to me”.
Overall, Clintons superdelegate count dwarfs those of Sanders, 449-19, according to a New York Times count.
