Bernie Sanders raises $20 million in January
The U.S. State Department conceded for the first time on Friday that intelligence officials were correct to say that at least 22 emails sent through Hillary Clinton’s private server contain some of the government’s most sensitive secrets. “The reason that the rich get richer, everybody else gets poorer, is big money controls what goes on in Congress. The answer though to that is a political revolution involving people in the political process”, Sanders said.
“That’s always been the rap on Bernie”.
In a press release, the campaign contrasted Sanders’ small funders with the major backers of Clinton, who led him by three points in the final poll before the Iowa caucuses, a survey released by the Des Moines Register and Bloomberg on Saturday night. If ten people had stayed home and bought the ‘He’s not electable angle, we wouldn’t be here today. “So every vote and every caucus member counts”.
“They said he couldn’t be a congressman”.
Ms Sanders, who has campaigned alongside her husband as he had soared in Iowa, said that even after he was elected mayor of Burlington, Vermont, people still continued to question his ability to make it. Sanders’ campaign has now surpassed the huge funds raised by Barack Obama’s campaign in the first quarter of 2008, before he defeated Hillary Clinton in the primary election.
“I think we’ve been very surprised at not the resonance of his ideas, but of the fervor of the support”, she said. There were more than 770,000 individual contributions, bringing the total number of individual donations for his campaign to 3.25 million. It’s not yet known how much she added at that event to her reported $17 million in campaign contributions over the years from Wall Street and financial services interests.
This month, the former secretary of state took a break from he campaign trail in Iowa and New Hampshire to attend a fundraiser in Philadelphia, alongside singer Jon Bon Jovi and finance executives.
