Bernie Sanders rips Obama for attempting to compromise with Republicans
“He thought he could walk into Capitol Hill and the Oval Office and sit down with [House Speaker] John Boehner and [Senate Majority Leader] Mitch McConnell and the Republicans and say ‘I can’t get it all”.
This is what American democracy looks like: running a clean campaign with a consistent message all but guarantees you will barely be heard. Let’s work out something that’s reasonable, ‘ because he’s a reasonable guy. “These guys never had any intention of doing [serious] negotiating and compromising …”
“Bernie must have known about this, because Vermont is a tiny state and representatives have a lot of contact with voters, and many of them are really upset about the out-of-state transfers”, says Holly Kirby of Grassroots Leadership, an organization that advocates holding prisoners nearer to home. “It appears to be more for political purposes than to actually address the many problems in our criminal justice system”, says Friedmann.
Sanders’ advisers, in announcing the fund-raising tally on Wednesday night with several hours to go before the end of the third quarter, also said the senator had more than $25 million in cash on hand, the Times said. “It ain’t gonna happen, I have no illusion about that”.
Meanwhile, Sanders also bemoaned the rise of selfies in the interview with Axelrod, who now runs the Institute of Politics at the University of Chicago.
“It sounds a little like the same argument which it is better to be pure than to be pragmatic”, Axelrod said.
Sanders traces this governmental passion back to his tenure as mayor of Burlington, Vermont and the “street murals, performance art, and music festivals” he supported there through the Burlington Arts Council – thereby “hoping to unleash the creativity of our residents”, he says, “and harness the untold benefits that investment in the arts brings to our communities”.
