Bernie Sanders said Donald Trump lies
The attacks are coming fast and furious because Sanders has been gaining on Clinton in the polls – the latest IBD/TIPP poll showed Clinton up by only 4 points, and several state polls show Sanders in the lead in Iowa and New Hampshire.
That Sanders outperforms Clinton might not be surprising in New Hampshire: He leads, 60% to Clinton’s 33%, in the Democratic primary, the CNN/WMUR poll found.
More voters sided with Mrs. Clinton over Mr. Sanders on the issues of gun control and health care, while they said Mr. Sanders would do a better job dealing with Wall Street and reducing the gap between rich and poor.
If Sanders can paint himself as a viable general election candidate, then it might not just be Iowa and New Hampshire that will worry Clinton.
Sanders also has astonishingly high favorability ratings among those likely to vote in New Hampshire’s Democratic primary, and is broadly seen as the candidate with the “personal characteristics and qualities that you think a president should have”. On Twitter, the top two flipped, with Sanders finishing first, followed by Clinton and O’Malley.
Although Sanders’ recent surge in Iowa and New Hampshire is likely to give him a chance in the primary race, Monmouth University Polling Institute director Patrick Murray believes he will have to overcome Clinton in those key demographics to stand a true chance.
“He just says things that are outrageous, that have no basis in fact”, said Sanders.
While Sanders had a strong debate performance over the weekend, it remains unclear how much that actually boosted his standing among poll participants.
“This poll suggests that our campaign has real momentum and that the American people want to go beyond establishment politics and establishment economics”, Jeff Weaver, Sanders’ campaign manager said in a statement about the results.
The same poll showed Clinton defeating Trump by 10 percent, despite Trump’s repeated claims that he leads over Clinton. Not only can she not let Mr Sanders whisk away the Left-progressive votebank, she will also have to keep a grip on the sizeable Black and Latino voters. Al Franken and women’s tennis legend Billy Jean King – along with daughter Chelsea and former President Bill Clinton, who made several stops along the Vermont border where Sanders is most popular. Clinton has received donations from people who work at banks, and Goldman Sachs paid the former secretary of state $675,000 for three speeches, according to her financial disclosures.
