Bernie Sanders Stalls a Rachel Maddow-Hosted Democratic Debate

On Wednesday night, an emotional actress Susan Sarandon took the stage at Music Man Square in Mason City to introduce friend and current Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders.

Sarandon, who has helped raise money for the Vermont Senator’s presidential bid praised Sanders for his political courage, specifically his vote against the Iraq war and record on gay rights.

“The President was certainly expecting to spend some time talking in the meeting about how they could work together to advance Democratic priorities and values”.

Clinton also spoke to AOL.com about how surprised she has been to meet many people who are still frustrated at the economy and stagnant incomes.

“The answer is obvious”.

On Tuesday, MSNBC and the New Hampshire Union Leader announced that they would be hosting an unsanctioned Democratic debate on February 4, only days before the New Hampshire primary.

According to a CBS News survey released on Sunday, Sanders has a 1 point lead over Clinton in Iowa, only a week before the caucuses there. “Sanders has significant momentum”, Weaver said. “We knew as soon as those rigged rules came down, we knew that if [Sanders] would agree to do more debates, we would have more debates, but he would never agree”, O’Malley said.

The DNC has said it wants to reconvene with the campaigns after the Iowa and New Hampshire contests to review the debate schedule.

“We both received the same information, and we both arrived at different conclusions”, Sanders said after meeting in the Oval Office with President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden.

DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz has been criticized for scheduling only seven debates among party candidates, compared to 12 for the Republicans. The White House, says Sanders and Obama first discussed holding this meeting at a White House Christmas party in late December and aides have been working on scheduling it since.

Sanders’ campaign proposed three new debates in March, April, and May against Clinton and former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley, adding that none of them should be on a weekend.
