The Birmingham event was one of 3,500 scattered across the country, including 16 in Alabama, organized by the Sanders campaign to energize supporters and encourage them to enlist more volunteers for the Vermont senator’s surging campaign for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination.
According to the Washington Post, Sanders’ campaign sent out an email earlier this month urging fellow socialists patriots to host organizing meetings across the country on July 29.
Klein countered by saying heavier immigration would allow the global poor to become richer, but Sanders said that could only come at the expense of existing American workers.
“I don’t want another Clinton, I don’t want another Bush and I certainly don’t want a Trump“, Jessica Fowler, 24, of Roanoke, said to laughter and applause.
About 100 Sanders supporters took in craft brews and the candidate’s message at Firefly Hollow Brewing Company in Bristol.
“Bernie Sanders is hitting on issues that directly affect the middle class, the under-privileged, the education system, health care – these things touch us on a daily basis and people are ready for change. It has such great potential for our country to really help us out”.
The Sanders rally comes as Delawareans gear up for the presidential primary elections next spring.
On the national scale, a CNN poll from this week found that Sanders out-polled every leading Republican candidate when matched up head-to-head.
Despite the tight quarters, supporters of Sanders filed in to hear the presidential hopeful.
Sanders is near the bottom, receiving $2,470 from donors.
Hillary Rodham Clinton on Thursday offered some support for a proposal in the Senate that would raise the federal minimum wage to $12 an hour, hinting that the higher rate sought by labor unions doesn’t have enough support.
“There’s always hope”, he said. “I can’t speak for everyone but, I think there’s a lot of the same feeling”.
The reason the candidacy of Bernie Sanders is so good for the Democratic Party is that he is pushing former Sec. Though Sanders and Hillary are the likely choices, a few other candidates attended the meeting as well to make their case.
Meehan, who is unemployed, said he agrees with Sanders’ platform of creating well-paying jobs, a single-payer healthcare system and free college tuition. They say that you’re statements are troubling, that you falsely pit immigrants as obstacles to tackling unemployment and they are just plain wrong.
