Bernie Sanders throws his support behind new gun legislation
Almost a quarter century later, the duo is back – but not quite the same.
Melissa Ham-Ellis was already working her cellphone, using an auto-dialing program provided by the Sanders campaign.
Their answer: very, very carefully.
Clinton presaged her campaign focus in a web ad during President Barack Obama’s State of the Union speech last week. A natural-born chit-chatter, he was not giving interviews.
With the Iowa caucuses a couple of weeks away, there are few levers Clinton’s campaign can pull to slow Sanders down.
Ryan Struyk of ABC News reports, “Roughly a quarter of Iowa Democrats think Clinton is not honest and trustworthy, doesn’t care about their problems and does not share their values”.
Among Obama’s 2008 caucus-goers, support for Clinton is tenuous, hinging less on their conviction for her than their uncertainty about Sanders.
“What we must do is bring this country together around those provisions that the vast majority of people support”, he said.
Clinton presides over a large campaign operation built on models of successful campaigns from past years. Besides, it’s also unclear why the Clinton camp would want to say anything this week that might steal attention from the current Donald Trump-Ted Cruz catfight over coded antisemitism and 9/11. In a debate last month, Clinton said she would turn to her husband for economic advice.
At an afternoon event in Keene, voters recalled the Clinton presidency fondly, as a time of prosperity. She has said she would close a loophole under which the government only has three days to complete the check before a buyer can buy a gun.
“We had very substantial time to make that case and it was a very friendly conversation, it was not an antagonistic conversation in any way”, said Himmelstein.
Still, some of those economic achievements face a skeptical re-examination within a party that’s grown more liberal under the Obama administration. “That didn’t stop him from fighting for the hardest regulations on Wall Street since the Great Depression”, she said.
“Stop the presses! According to a new poll by Quinnipiac University on Tuesday, Sen”. That includes $2.8 million in fees from paid speeches Hillary Clinton gave since stepping down from the State Department in 2013.
“I welcome support from anyone in Congress who now recognizes the need to repeal the immunity Congress granted the gun industry in 2005”, Schiff told BuzzFeed News.
It’s an argument similar to the one he made in 2007, when Hillary Clinton was fending off another insurgent challenger: then-Illinois Sen.
To compare the 2016 primary race to 2008 is unavoidable. “We do ourselves a disservice by not being informed voters”.
There are several reasons why Bernie Sanders could easily be seen as the more electable candidate than Hillary Clinton, making a Bernie Sanders presidency, some believe, inevitable. “But Bernie is telling the truth about the economy”. Clinton leads by quite a margin in pretty much every other state.
Clinton released a letter from her doctor in July, who stated that the former secretary of state was “fit to serve as President”.
Sanders has said his votes on gun control legislation differ from many progressives because he hails from Vermont, a state wary of regulations on firearms.
