Bernie Sanders: ‘Very Disappointed’ That MSNBC Cancelled Ed Schultz’s Show
A big staff meeting is expected for later today with more announcements. The goal is to try and stem the ratings slide the network has been experiencing for the last three years.
But the decision was greeted with disappointment and some anger by Schultz’s diehard fans.
There were none of fluff questions Sanders says distract from the major issues affecting the American people (including, per his statement, “income and wealth inequality, high unemployment, low wages, our disastrous trade policies and racism in America”). I am very disappointed that Comcast chose to remove Ed Schultz from its lineup.
Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, a frequent and loquacious Schultz guest, blasted MSNBC’s corporate parent, Comcast, in response to widespread reports of the show’s demise, which went officially unconfirmed as of Thursday night.
According to an inside source that reportedly spoke with Mediaite, you can wave bye-bye to several progressive talk shows: “Out: The Cycle at 3:00 PM. We need more people who talk about the real issues facing our country, not fewer”.
“Todd, who used to host a late-morning program on the network, would continue to anchor the NBC Sunday public-affairs program he took over from David Gregory in the fall of 2014”, Variety notes. Lack previously ran NBC News from 1993-2001, during which time he groomed the No. 1 evening newscast, No. 1 morning infotainment show and the No. 1 Sunday Beltway show.
Part of the ongoing changes at MSNBC will include former NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams anchoring news hours on the network.
The changes are “arguably the most significant revamp the network has made at one time in its 19-year history”, writes Concha.
In addition, there are rumors that Keith Olbermann, who was recently fired by ESPN (for the second time), may return to MSNBC as well.
