Bernie Takes Massive Lead in New Hampshire: What Does It Mean?
U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, who jumped to second place in the latest WMUR/CNN New Hampshire Primary Poll of Republican candidates, trails Sanders, 56 percent to 33 percent, with independents favoring Sanders, 56 percent to 24 percent. Elsewhere, a poll from nonpartisan research company Gravis Marketing found Clinton’s lead is more pronounced in Iowa – she’s polling at 57% compared to Sanders’ 36%.
But the results come as Clinton has made the case that she’s more electable than Sanders, arguing that Democrats should give her the party’s nod to keep Republicans from attacking Sanders’ history as a democratic socialist in the general election. Moderators posed questions about the economy and Wall Street reform – issues central to Sanders’ campaign – more than any other topic.
With 13 days to go, it’s Hillary Clinton’s nightmare scenario-the possibility that Bernie Sanders’ youth brigade could topple her in Iowa.
Clinton still beats Sanders 52%-37% overall among Democrats, though Sanders’ gains have cut into her lead, Monmouth found. And she has considerable support among important primary voting blocs. “We have to keep working to make sure people are not taken advantage of, not stripped of their rights”, Clinton said. Entrance polls outside the caucuses showed that among men, Clinton ended up trailing by 12 points to Barack Obama and 5 points to John Edwards.
“The leader of Goldman Sachs is a billionaire”, who advocates that Congress cuts Social Security, Sanders said, adding, “Secretary Clinton…you’ve received over $600,000 in speaking fees from Goldman Sachs in one year”, even though the firm paid fines for illegal behavior.
Overall, 91% say they have a favorable view of Sanders, while just 2% have an unfavorable opinion.
“Are voters going to follow their hearts, with Bernie Sanders, or follow their heads, as Hillary Clinton is asking them to do?” 55 percent polled also feel that Hillary is the least honest. Many American voters are realizing that the time is now for a unique candidate that is more than just a politician, but someone helping lead a political revolution to fundamentally change a system controlled by the 1%.
