Besiktas close in on deal for Fiorentina striker

Fiorentina striker Mario Gomez could become a Liverpool player this summer after his agent denied that a potential move to Besiktas was not set in stone, as reported by the Express.

Mario Gomez is a target for Besiktas, but the Fiorentina striker’s agent says no deal has yet been agreed with either the Turkish side or any other suitors.

“There are negotiations going on with several different clubs, including Besiktas”, he said.

That search may well be over sooner rather than later given reports that Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke is closing in on a move to Anfield. Losing Luis Suarez to Barcelona and Daniel Sturridge to injury were the main contributing issues to the problem, which formed a backdrop to a disappointing sixth-place finish in the Premier League.

The German worldwide joined the Viola from Bayern Munich in 2013, but has failed to recapture his Bundesliga form, scoring just seven Serie A goals. He has scored 14 goals in 47 appearances in all competitions for the Italian club over the past two seasons.
