Besiktas ‘lining up shock move for Danny Welbeck
Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck has emerged as a target for Besiktas, as reported by Goal.
The 24-year-old only completed a £16million deadline day move from Manchester United last summer, but is already being tipped for an exit after struggling to hold down a regular role. Although he didn’t have the kind of impact he was hoping the make, his best moment came at Old Trafford, where his winning goal knocked out his former club and set Arsenal on their way to another FA Cup win.
The Turkish side are keen to acquire a new forward having sold ex-Chelsea striker Demba Ba to Shanghai Shenhua.
According to Turkish newspaper Aksam, the Besiktas hierarchy are confident of landing the former Man United man for a fee in the region of £7-10.6million. The Turkish outfit also turned their attention towards another Arsenal forward, Joel Campbell, but a move has failed to materialize so far.
Arsene Wenger now has plenty of options to choose from in attacking areas, but it would still be a surprise if Welbeck were allowed to leave, given his all-around game and potential to improve. The Gunners have been linked with the likes of Karim Benzema over the past week by the Telegraph.
