Best Memes of the New Orleans Saints Beating the Atlanta Falcons
The Falcons’ offense, under first-year offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, was smoking hot in the first four games of the season.
It didn’t hurt that Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones probably wasn’t himself with a tweaked hamstring, taking nothing away from Saints cornerback Delvin Breaux who played brilliantly in pass coverage.
October 15, 2015; New Orleans, LA, United States of America; New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees (9) congratulates running back Mark Ingram (22) after his fourth quarter touchdown run against the Atlanta Falcons at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
On fourth-and-goal from the 4, instead of settling for a chip-shot field goal, Saints coach Sean Payton sent the offense back on the field.
After the game, Watson was asked by NewOrleansSaints.com about what was going through his mind when he dropped to his knees after catching a third quarter touchdown pass from Saints quarterback Drew Brees. I’m not gonna go that far about last night, because the Katrina thing was just epic, and a totally different animal than the flawless storm that we dealt with last night.
To be sure, it was like old times.
“There’s something about these night games in New Orleans”, Watson said. “But I have to continue to work and keep adjusting to the game”. Two of them came in key situations and the other, late in the game when things were decided. Brees finished 30-of-39 passing for 312 yards and a 108.1 quarterback rating…
Although he hasn’t received the attention that former Saints tight end Jimmy Graham got in past seasons in New Orleans, Watson has been a steady target for Brees this year. New Orleans jumped on the Birds early and never really let them back in the game. He had a touchdown run of 25 yards and a 13-yard touchdown reception.
After a rough start to open the season, Watson said the Saints were extra motivated for the Falcons game, especially since it was a nationally-televised night game in New Orleans.
As always, Charles McDonald will have a full tape review later in the week, and we’ll have plenty of time to consider this game and the Falcons’ season with a little more distance from our collective disgust and rage. Matt Ryan passed for 295 yards and two TDs.
-RUN DEFENSE: D-plus. One of the league’s worst run defenses was gashed again when the Falcons netted 7.1 yards per attempt in picking up 150 yards on 21 carries. But the Saints did come up with a big fumble in the red zone when linebacker Dannell Ellerbe popped the ball free from rookie Tevin Coleman and Brandon Browner recovered. The Saints went on to miss a 51-yard field goal. A huge blocked punt returned for a touchdown and a clicking offense would lead to the Saints handing the Falcons their first loss 31-21. Last week, the Falcons win was sealed with a 59-yard interception return for a touchdown in overtime by Robert Alford as the team would like to have a lead and hold it in Week 6. They just didn’t execute well enough to get it done in week six.
