Best Tournament Finals In WWE History
Out of the 32 competitors from 16 different countries, Filipino-American wrestler TJ Perkins emerged victorious in World Wrestling Entertainment’s Cruiserweight Classic tournament on Wednesday, September 14 (Thursday, September 15, Manila time) at Full Sail University in Orlando, Florida. WWE Executive Vice President Triple H (Paul Levesque in real life) awarded the belt to the champion.
The Fil-Am technician submitted Gran Metalik in the Finals, reversing the Metalik Driver from the top turnbuckle and turning it to a kneebar for the victory.
“This is not one person. Tonight, all of them are my heroes”, said Perkins.
The real shocker for the tournament thus far came in the other semi, as Perkins scored a huge upset over global superstar Kota Ibushi, widely assumed to be the slam dunk victor of the tournament.
Perkins compelled Ibushi to wave the white flag by fastening a modified kneebar submission that dropped the jaws of many in attendance.
As for the Cruiserweight Classic’s future, that will actually come as the WWE launches an exclusive cruiserweight division within the RAW brand this upcoming week.
Meanwhile, in the other semifinals duel, Metalik beat Zack Sabre Jr., catching the British technician on the air and turning it to the Metalik Driver for the three-count.
