Beyoncé’s ‘Ghost’ Video Has Inspired Its Own Skyscraper
The Australia-based architecture firm Elenberg Fraser has announced plans to build a 226 meter-high (roughly 740 feet) skyscraper in Melbourne that features a curvaceous form inspired by a Beyoncè music video.
Elenberg Fraser said the building’s complex form – a vertical cantilever – is a response to both science and art.
Beyoncé has inspired many through her music – and now, apparently, her reach has expanded to the world of architecture.
Construction is estimated to take 40 months, and the developers have not indicated a completion date.
The 78-story building is set to include apartments, a hotel, and retail stores.
‘Art and science? You betcha.’.
The project has been financed by the Fragrance Group, a real estate company owned by Singaporean billionaire Koh Wee Meng.
Yes, Melbourne, we’re ready for this jelly. “With three street frontages the building’s podium steps down from the tower’s lofty heights to respond to its heritage surrounds”. Like we mentioned previously, this is something you’d expect to happen in Dubai and not the Victorian capital. It will reside opposite Southern Cross Station and aims to “anchor the increased westerly shift of the CBD, heralded by the regeneration of Docklands, Fishermen’s Bend and Southbank”.
No word yet on when the building will be completed.
It’ll consist of 660 apartments and a 160-room hotel.
Don’t forget the XO sauce. “The whole precinct is designed with a more long-term view to urban design, creating a self-sustaining development”, added the architects.
The building’s got the Green Light.
