However, the biggest attraction of the night was Beyonce herself, who rocked the stage with impressive stamina, sexy dresses and a high voltage performance during which she performed on her hits after hits making the environment groovy.
Watch Beyoncé, Pearl Jam, Coldplay, and Ed Sheeran headline the 2015 Global Citizen Festival.
On September 26, the two performed the song on stage at the Global Citizen Festival 2015 which is held in New York City. Last night during the festival was the first time that Sheeran was able to team up with Beyonce.
The Global Citizen Festival is a free event that aims to help the United Nations with its goal of ending extreme poverty all over the globe by 2030. But one other musician did join him onstage: Coldplay’s Chris Martin on electric piano on Sheeran’s hit, “Thinking Out Loud“. Never mind the inaugural ball serenade, the national anthem sung on the Mall, the 50th birthday performance, or the letter Beyoncé wrote Obama thanking her for just being.
Introducing Sheeran on stage, the 34-year-old singer said: “I want to bring out someone I respect so much”.
Overall, their duet was flawless and it’s always good to hear a different spin on Beyonce’s timeless love ballad. “They are hungry for knowledge, for childhood, for a home”, she said.
First Lady Michelle Obama announced a new campaign, #62milliongirls – named for the enormous number of girls who are now missing out on an education.
She sent out plenty of messages of independence and strength to her young female fans in attendance as she performed her girl power tracks including Survivor, Run The World (Girls) and even used a soundbite from MMA fighter Ronda Rousey before performing Diva.
Coldplay opened the concert with “Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall”, and the band was joined by Ariana Grande for “Just a Little Bit of Your Heart”.
Usher, Common, Laverne Cox, Katie Holmes, Connie Britton, Tori Kelly, and Sunidhi Chauhan, will also make appearances for the cause, so it should be worthwhile to tune in.
