Beyonce, Pearl Jam to perform at Global Citizen Festival
Beyonce, Pearl Jam and Coldplay will perform at the 2015 Global Citizen Festival in New York’s Central Park on September 26, 2015.
Tickets to the festival are free and go online today at the festival’s official site, where fans can sign up and pledge to take an “Action Journey”, which includes “making phone calls, volunteering or participating in another effort to encourage the USA State Department to dedicate 50% of its foreign aid budget to the world’s poorest countries”.
The Global Citizen Festival aims to fight inequality and end extreme poverty. And it’s not just about these epic entertainers performing: The Global Citizen Festival brings together thousands of people, diplomats, and politicians from around the world to help fight extreme poverty.
“It has always stood for improving the lives of people everywhere, but this year is especially rewarding as we all join focuses and utilize our talents for one goal: to end extreme poverty globally”. “I truly believe it’s possible if we all work together”. Festival organizer Hugh Evans joins Coldplay singer Chris Martin and Kweku Mandela, grandson of Nelson Mandela, to reveal this year’s lineup. “The world has halved extreme poverty in the last 15 years, but to end it in the next 15, there’s a whole lot of things we need to make that a reality”. This year’s Afropunk Festival has a similar system in place-free music in exchange for simple tasks created to help the community. BBC Worldwide will serve as the global distributor for the TV special. But this year, supporters will also be able to access the show on various radio stations. After carrying out a number of “actions”, a fan then would “win” a ticket. These actions have resulted in 87 commitments and policy announcements, including cash commitments valued at US $18.3 billion.
