Beyonce tops 2017 Grammy nominations
With her nine nominations, Beyonce is now a 62-time Grammy nominee, with more nominations than any other female artist in Grammy history. Regardless, it will win the best alternative music album.
In addition to “Lemonade” for album of the year, Beyoncé landed song and record of the year nods for “Formation”, which gained fame after her epic Super Bowl performance this year.
The “Irreplaceable” singer is up against Adele in three major categories. In 2012, Adele swept three top categories with her album 19.
Travi$ Scott doesn’t seem to be the only one who was snubbed from this year’s awards, YG was also cut out of the rap categories despite the release of his impressive release, Still Brazy.
When Beyoncé scored nine Grammy nominations yesterday, she continued to uphold her title as the most Grammy-nominated woman in history, but she also broke another record. It will be recalled that Riri shocked everyone in 2011 for being nominated under the same category for her album “Loud”. “Blonde”, the latest album by Frank Ocean, an R&B singer and songwriter, was not nominated because he failed to submit his material for consideration. For example, I had no idea gospel legend Shirley Ceaser (most recently known as the “beans, greens, potatoes, tomatoes, you name it” lady) and Anthony Hamilton, one of my favorite artists, had a gospel song together.
Beyonce already has 20 Grammys in her trophy case, while Adele has 10.
The year totally belongs to both extraordinary women: Adele and Beyonce.
It won for Best Urban Contemporary Album and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for the track No Church in the Wild. Keeping up with top artists like Beyonce, Drake and his good friend Kanye West, the Chicago native is on cloud 9!
Taylor Swift is evidently absent in this year’s nominations.
Not Album of the Year nod?!?
The biggest surprise for Album of the Year was “A Sailor s Guide to Earth” by Sturgill Simpson, a country singer who has won a high-brow audience with abstract lyricism including meditations on Tibetan Buddhism.
The British singer’s fourth album has been a smash hit, selling more than 10 million copies in the United States alone. Actress-comedian Amy Schumer received two nominations for best spoken word album and best comedy album.
