Bieber wins big at MTV Europe Music awards
Taylor Swift was nominated for 9 categories, but won just Best Song Award.
The Bieb won five awards, more than any other artist, and also took to the stage to sing recent chart-topper ‘What Do You Mean?’.
Unfortunately he lost “Best Male” to his buddy Justin Bieber who was also in attendance at the show.
The “Baby” hitmaker won the award for Best Look, Best Male, Biggest Fans, and Best Collaboration.
A good deal of anticipation surrounded his performance because he broke down in tears at the MTV Video Music Awards in August.
One Direction took home best pop group, depriving the Canadian of a clean sweep at the prestigious awards ceremony.
“I don’t know what to say, I got these looks from my mamma”, Bieber added.
Tennis ace Novak Djokovic took to the stage in a suit to present the award for Best Hip Hop, which was won by Nicki Minaj.
The stage was laid out in the style of an elongated model runway, while Macklemore and Ryan Lewis performed in front of Lambretta scooters for their opening run through “Downtown”, which featured a mustachioed Eric Nally hoisted high above the stage on wires.
After confirming his appearance at the EMAs, Bieber said: “I’m excited to share this performance and this new material with my fans around the world”. Cameras cut to the Piazza Duomo in Milan’s center, where fans unfurled a huge ” Freedom” banner to raise awareness about Europe’s refugee crisis.
The Birmingham band received the first ever “Video Visionary Award” and appeared on stage to give a slightly awkward but brilliantly un-humble acceptance speech.
Conceived as an alternative to the MTV Video Music Awards aimed at worldwide fans, North American stars nonetheless have often dominated the European edition, whose venue changes each year.
