Big Big, Steelers defeat Saints 27-14 for first preseason win

Watch The Saints take on The Pittsburgh Steelers in the Saint’s third pre-season game over on WDAM 7 NBC at 7:00 p.m. He also had a fumble on a third-and-18 play. It wasn’t all bad, but here’s a glimpse at our list of winners and losers from Friday’s game. All three have the potential to be starters, so determining their value in training camp and preseason could have added importance.

Maybe Berry isn’t underrated this preseason, but then again, punters are certainly underappreciated for the most part. Drew Brees struggled to find targets down the field and was often forced to check down.

The line, which rotated Senio Kelemete and Tim Lelito at left guard, did give Brees better time to throw on a couple plays, and at least opened up holes on a few running plays. “You have to get other guys the ball and try and showcase what we have in terms of weapons and I think we have a lot of good ones”.

Coach Jay Gruden took a more conventional dress-rehearsal approach to the third preseason game for the Redskins (2-1) and got the kind of performances he’d like to see from top players such as tight end Jordan Reed, receivers DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon, left tackle Trent Williams and cornerback Josh Norman.

Brady made a quick escape after the game and did not talk to reporters.

Left tackle Terron Armstead and tight end Michael Hoomanawanui left the game in the first half due to injuries. Another went 57 yards to his old friend, Antonio Brown (whose agent by the way met with GM Kevin Colbert Thursday night here). He also made a conscious attempt to target receivers other than Brown, who has led the National Football League in receptions each of the last two seasons with 129 in 2014 and 136 previous year.

The Saints opening drive wasn’t as impressive.

QB Garrett Grayson hooked up with wide receiver Tommmylee Lewis for a 31-yard touchdown.

“I’d like to get out there and play a little bit”, said Roethlisberger. “I wouldn’t say that was the sole reason”. He’s going to have to bring it to another level if he wants to stay on this team. “Unfortunately one got called back with a holding”. Canal Street Chronicles has an idea of what the Saints’ final 53-man roster could look like. He also completed a 58-yard pass to Coates to set up Chris Boswell’s 40-yard field goal. He doesn’t belong on the outside. Tony Hills replaced Armstead. I’ll be interested in seeing CSC analyst John Sigler’s breakdown and charting.

“I know this – I don’t think that I’ve ever felt as responsible for our team doing poorly as I think we do as a group right now”, Saints veteran right tackle Zach Strief said. The Saints defense didn’t gain any support after last night, and it only creates doubt for this season. Payton sounded very dejected in his press conference, and that’s not encouraging for anyone.
