Big Lines From Trump’s News Conference
During the press conference, CNN’s Jim Acosta asked, “Aren’t you concerned, sir, that you are undermining the people’s faith in the First Amendment, freedom of the press, the press in this country, when you call stories you don’t like ‘fake news?'” “But we had a bad court”, Trump said. Trump said, “Well, set up the meeting”. This is just more fodder for Trump to go after Tapper.
Over 77 minutes, Trump mounted a defence of his chaotic administration that has been hit by repeated leaks of internal tensions and repeatedly attacked the press for being “dishonest”. “It’s a mess. At home and overseas, a mess”, he said.
Trump said the press has become “so dishonest that if we don’t talk about it, we are doing a tremendous disservice to the American people”.
After his original pick withdrew under congressional pressure, Trump also announced that dean of the Florida International University law school and former U.S. attorney in Florida, Alexander Acosta will be his nominee for Labor secretary.
President Trump spouted false statistics while calling the media’s dishonesty “out of control”.
He blasted the media as “out of control” and said that the leaks from Washington “are real” but the news is “fake”.
This marks the third press conference for Trump this week, after holding two prior press conferences with foreign leaders.
“Can you imagine if I received the questions?” he asked. “So, I don’t want classified information getting out to the public and in a way that was nearly a test”. I’ve seen that information around. “But it was a very substantial victory, do you agree with that?” When it was pointed out that what he had said was untrue, he said, “Well, I don’t know, I was given that information”. Another executive-order travel ban in the offing to impede the influx of immigrants from certain Muslim-dominated countries. Trump tweeted Thursday morning.
I was at home, working on a book I am trying to finish when there was a flash on the TV: Donald Trump to hold unscheduled news conference in an hour’s time. “Yet it is the exact opposite”. He bragged that his White House is “a fine-tuned machine” and claimed that “there has never been a presidency that has done so much in such a short period of time”.
Trump’s first Clinton call-out was a reference to Clinton allegedly receiving a presidential debate question in advance, which happened months ago when Trump and Clinton were still vying for the White House.
President Trump said in his attack on the media: “Many of our nation’s reporters will not tell you the truth”.
Flynn’s conversations with the Russian ambassador to the USA may have violated a federal statute that prohibits private citizens from conducting foreign policy without the permission of the US government.
“What he did wasn’t wrong”, Trump said of Flynn. How does the press get this information that’s classified? “That’s the real problem”, he said.
The subject of the Trump’s immediate ire appeared to be reports, based on intelligence leaks, of his and his associates’ close ties with Russian Federation, which he dismissed as “fake news”.
Making a case for his early successes, the president said the news media had underreported the “mess” he inherited from President Obama.
“I own nothing in Russian Federation”.
I won’t try to tackle whether that is a good or bad thing for democracy – or our culture – in this space today.
US President Donald Trump entered the East Room yesterday reeling from a week filled with resignations, withdrawals and continued questions surrounding his campaign’s contacts with Russian Federation.
