Biggest award is audience response, says Sanjay Leela Bhansali
Hollywood’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which released overseas on December 18, made it to the Indian theatres on December 25 and minted a total of Rs 4.58 crores.
How Both Fared Since Release The clash of these two blockbusters – Dilwale and Bajirao Mastani – has proved to be a victor for movie goers, producers, distributors as well as for the business of Bollywood films in the calendar year 2015. I was the first person to be cast for this film.
The success of Bajirao Mastani is high water achievement for its lead actors (Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra) and has reestablished the box office dominance of Sanjay Leela Bhansali who had hit a mixed patch after giving string of hits in his career with Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999), Devdas (2002), Black (2005). The story is about Bajirao and Mastani, but history forgot to mention about Kashi and all credit goes to Sanjay sir to bring her on screen so beautifully. Though Dilwale enjoyed a great opening, Monday onwards the film suffered a massive drop.
Now Dilwale has entered in the second week and recorded decent growth in its business but grossed lesser amount than the adjacent one Bajirao Mastani in its second weekend.
On Friday (25th December) Dilwale earned Rs. 8.11 Cr while “Bajirao Mastani” earned a 12.25 cr.
Before the release of “Bajirao Mastani” the producers were fighting a battle for getting more screen space and the matter even reached court. Box office rage coming!!
While the Rohit Shetty film is an action comedy. Johar had said in his Tweet.
Dilwale took off to a flying start, ending the first week on a high with Rs 102.65 crore in the kitty. Bajirao Mastani is reported to have been made on a budget of Rs 120 crore of which the producer is said to have recovered half of it via the sale of its satellite and music rights.
