Biggest Takeaways from Cleveland Browns’ Week 12 Loss
Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Kamar Aiken celebrates after scoring a 15-yard touchdown in the second half of an NFL football game against the Cleveland Browns, Monday, Nov. 30, 2015, in Cleveland.
The Cincinnati Bengals will be facing a new starting quarterback this week when they head to Cleveland to take on the Browns in Round 2 of the Battle of Ohio.
Davis came in for McCown Monday night against the Ravens after Manziel had been demoted for reportedly lying to management when asked about videos showing him partying and drinking during the team’s Week 12 bye week.
The Browns previously had Josh McCown at QB, but he has been lost for the year with a broken collarbone.
Pettine said Davis, who signed with the Browns in September, is prepared and has the respect of his teammates. “He’s been great in the quarterback room all season and he has earned the right to start on Sunday”. He also helped the Browns move into position for Travis Coons’ 51-yard field-goal attempt, which was blocked by defensive end Brett Urban and returned 64 yards by safety Will Hill for the game-winning touchdown with no time left.
Pettine said he had yet to make a decision on his starting quarterback for Sunday’s game against Cincinnati.
Manziel was surprisingly active for Monday’s game, serving as Cleveland’s No. 3 quarterback.
Davis, who went 3-5 in eight starts for St Louis last season, completed 7 of 11 passes for 77 yards against hhe Ravens. “That is the bottom line”, Pettine said. He goes into a game with processing speed that he’s rehearsed it so many times in his hand, that he gets the ball out, he’s decisive, quicker than other guys.
“Playing quarterback is hard no matter what, ” Davis said. From a physical standpoint, he’s got some mobility, got some arm strength to him. He indicated Johnny Manziel will get another opportunity to start in at least one of the last four games. I appreciate that. So I don’t take things like that personally, I see it as they’re passionate, they want to win, we all do. The Browns have made it clear that they want to remain faithful to the quarterback and they believe in his potential, but if they are not willing to start him when the team needs a quarterback then his future in Cleveland is not as bright as it once was. “We have two young guys that are more than talented enough to play in this league”.
