Bihar CM Nitish Kumar promises to ban liquor | Indiablooms – First Portal on
While the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its ally Ram Vilas Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) won 13 seats together, the JD(U), RJD and Congress combine could manage to win only 9 seats.
The Bihar Council polls’ results suggest that despite the coalition, BJP-led NDA still stands a strong chance in the state.
The election for 24 seats of Bihar Legislative council were held on Tuesday with an estimated 94% voting recorded during the polls.
Despite the opposition from within, RJD chief Lalu Prasad, a convict in the fodder scam case and barred from contesting elections, agreed to project Nitish Kumar as the chief ministerial candidate for the polls. Lalu had said he and Nitish were on the same page so far as stopping the BJP was concerned. The leaders of the RJD-JDU alliance should be more alert now.
Altogether, 152 contestants were in the fray for the 24 council seats. But unfazed by the challenges, the BJP has claimed that it has a strong chance of making it big in the polls.
The BJP, on the other hand, is euphoric over its good show in the Legislative Council polls.
“It’s a pointer that the whole Bihar has determined that they’re going to deliver Bharatiya Janata Party and NDA, they’re going to give a mandate to BJP and NDA, and they’re going to reject Lalu, Nitish mixture”, he added. “Jaise suraj ka nikalna tai hai, waise hi Bihar mein kamal khilna tai hai (It’s nearly certain that lotus (BJP’s symbol) will bloom in Bihar)”, Hussain said. “Therefore, this has very clearly proven that the development in Bihar is clearly in the direction of BJP and NDA and the countdown of Lalu, Nitish has begun”, Kumar advised ANI right here. The JD(U), RJD combine took six out the 10 Assembly seats in the by-elections earlier this year.
