Bill Cosby sues accusers over ‘defamation’
All of these women are known accusers, each of whom came forward in one way or another to accuse the actor of drugging and sexually assaulting them.
In an 89-page filing in U.S. District Court in Massachusetts, Cosby boldly claims accusers Tamara Green, Therese Serignese, Linda Traitz, Louisa Moritz, Barbara Bowman, Joan Tarshis and Angela Leslie fabricated their accounts of assault and should pay him compensatory and punitive damages.
Bill claims that he has been mortified by the claims and that the women are trying to assassinate his character.
WHAT DO YOU THINK of Bill Cosby’s decision to countersue? The lawyer’s statement adds that the “false…opportunistic” allegations have caused Cosby to suffer loss of jobs and “mortification”.
A federal judge in MA recently rejected an attempt by Cosby’s defense to throw out the suit, and his countersuit was filed afterward.
Cosby, 78, has been accused of sexual misconduct by more than 50 women but has never been charged criminally. “Although I do not represent the women in that case, I do believe that in general that such a tactic will not deter courageous women from fighting the battle against him”.
Ms Pressley also called for the women to publically retract and correct their defamatory statements.
The university said in a statement Monday that the entertainer’s treatment of women “brought significant and lasting discredit upon himself”, and was inconsistent with the school’s values.
Boston University announced in an email earlier today that the Board of Trustees voted to rescind the honorary degree awarded to Bill Cosby.
This comes the same day that Boston University is taking back the honorary doctorate it gave Cosby in May 2014.
