Bill Cosby Will Be Deposed By Accuser’s Lawyer This Fall
LOS ANGELES U.S. comic Bill Cosby has been ordered to give a sworn deposition in a lawsuit alleging he sexually abused a 15-year-old woman on the Playboy Mansion in Los Angeles in 1974.
The deposition will related to the civil suit brought on by Huth according to Vulture and it comes after the Los Angeles County judge overseeing the case denied Cosby’s lawyer’s request the Huth be deposed before the Cosby.
She alleges in her court papers that she has suffered “psychological damage and mental anguish” throughout her life, but only recently discovered the problems were “caused by the sexual abuse perpetrated by Cosby”.
It marks the first time Cosby, 78, has been directed to testify under oath in response to a complaint of sexual misconduct against him since a deposition he gave in a separate Pennsylvania case he settled out of court nine years ago.
The depositions are the first step in the process to a civil court trial, allowing lawyers from both sides to question key witnesses under oath. While there, Huth claims she went to use a restroom in a bedroom, as directed by Cosby, and that when she emerged from the restroom, Cosby was sitting on the bed and asked her to sit next to him.
Cosby’s lawyer Martin Singer dismissed Huth’s allegations false and “defamatory”.
Huth is one of more than 40 women who have come forward in the past year to say that they were raped or molested by Cosby after he gave them alcohol or drugs in incidents dating back decades.
After the allegations gained mainstream media attention in October, TV Land pulled “The Cosby Show” reruns, Netflix postponed his new comedy special and NBC dropped a sitcom it was developing with the five-time Emmy Award victor. The comedian has denied the claims through his lawyer and has not been charged with any crime.
