Bill Murray admits throwing fans’ mobile phones off roof
Actor Bill Murray likely wasn’t in the best of moods when he allegedly took the phones out of the hands of patrons dining in the same restaurant as him on February 11 and tossed them off of the eatery’s roof. Surely he’s used to fans snapping photos of him, and he reportedly did very well in the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am golf tournament that day.
Paul Tomasi, Carmel police commander, said: “He acknowledged that he was there and said he is willing to replace the property that was damaged”.
The officer also confirmed no further action will be taken against Murray since the fans affected did not want to press charges. And no, we don’t know if one of them was the Motorola DROID Turbo 2 with a shatterproof screen.
Meanwhile, Murray’s run-in with the over-eager fans has prompted owner Rose to change his phone policy at Vesuvio, banning the use of mobiles and photos at the celebrity hotspot.
Mr Tomasi said two of the phones went off the top of the building and were “lost”.
According to the police, the victims claimed that they were not taking pictures or videos of the “Jungle Book” actor when the incident took place.
But when the flashes reportedly started going off just 10-feet away from where he was standing, the Ghostbusters star was apparently having none of it and chose to throw the phones off the second-storey roof. Murray, who’s endlessly telling cool stories the likes of crashing a party and pissing off Andy Warhol, has always been friendly and accessible to fans, randomly popping up at private events like that time he joined a kickball game in NY.
