Bill Murray rocks his first Comic-Con
Another curious fan asked about some of the meme-worthy encounters people have had with Murray in the wild – partying with him or having a freakish, one-time interaction – after which the icon would usually tell them, “No one will ever believe you”.
Murray was on hand to promote his upcoming comedy “Rock the Kasbah”, in theaters October 23, in which he plays a washed-up rock promoter who becomes stranded in Afghanistan.
“I don’t know if I was ever up for Han Solo”, he says. “I could fall down in any of these aisles right here and be fine until I woke”.
“I had the coolest damn auto to drive around Manhattan with”. I didn’t know what to expect. “And they’re making it personal for them, which I hadn’t accounted for that – that people would receive me in that way”. “And doing Pilates”.
He obliged a fan at the event with an autograph by writing “Miley Cyrus” in blue ink on his forehead.
There, on the hallowed stage built for the mass marketing of superheroes and billion-dollar blockbusters, Murray kicked off the biggest pop culture confab of the year by big-upping Islam, defending Bruce Willis and Miley Cyrus, and giving a moving shout-out to South Carolina’s historic decision to remove the Confederate flag from the state capitol. I was not particularly convinced, but Miley Cyrus is really f-ing good.
She paused for a moment and sang a few bars to “It’s A Small World”. “So I don’t wanna hear anymore bad rapping of Miley Cyrus”.
Mitch Glazer, Murray’s friend and the Rock the Kasbah writer, did tell one amusing anecdote: His wife, Kelly Lynch, co-starred in the film Road House with Patrick Swayze, and whenever the film was on TV, Murray would call him with an important message.
He also hopes his efforts will not only help mend his broken heart but also inspire others to donate to his nonprofit, Eileen’s Angels. Green Line trolleys were set to run every 7 1/2 minutes for most of the day and evening hours, with large amounts of parking available at the El Cajon Transit Center, Grantville, Qualcomm Stadium, Hazard Center and the Old Town Transit Center. “Sometimes I sing very quietly”, he joked, before fessing up. “If you wanna stay at the part, you gotta hydrate”, Murray said. I don’t just do an accent like that, she’s Thai.
Murray’s been on a bit of a music tear lately, hanging with singer/songwriter Jenny Lewis at the Grateful Dead’s farewell shows in Chicago this past weekend.
