Bill Murray to star in new Ghostbusters after all?
In the original Ghostbusters films, Murray portrayed the character Dr. Peter Venkman.
The new movies have created a wave of excitement across the fan base, leaving many wanting to see the original cast return in one form or another. And boy has the original crew tried to get him on board, but without much prevail. Well Murray of course.
The beloved actor and star of the original films has been against – or seemed to be against (Murray’s a weird cat) – the idea of another chapter in the series for nearly as long as the possibility of a new Ghostbusters has been discussed. When the project was first announced, he even gave up his dream female casting.
Bill Murray has been confirmed to appear in the franchise’s next film, starring alongside Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones and Chris Hemsworth. At the time, Indie Revolver reported that Aykroyd filmed a cab driver cameo.
Sidebar: this news has also reminded me of that god very bad Adam Sandler movie Little Nicky, in which Ozzy Osbourne appeared as himself and bit the head of a dude for some reason my brain has conveniently forgotten.
Aykroyd said he understood Murray’s hesitation. But there would come a point when having every key cast member from the movie making a cameo would be a little excessive, so if it’s just the actual Ghostbusters popping up here and there, then that’s perfectly fine.
