Bill Nye Uses Science To Defend Women’s Reproductive Rights
Every young lady who’s created a fertilized egg cell undergo her?
In Big Think’s video, which now has over 400,000 views on multiple platforms, Nye addresses the belief – held by many conservative politicians – that abortion is murder and that abortion providers are criminals.
The discussion on abortion and women’s reproductive rights has gained national attention in the aftermath of multiple undercover Planned Parenthood videos (which many say have been manipulated), as well as last week’s vote to defund Planned Parenthood. Every woman who’s had a fertilize egg pass through her and every man who’s ever fertilized an egg that didn’t become human? If all these people failed you? “That’s wrong, and so to pass laws based on that belief is inconsistent with nature”.
This is not the first time that Nye’s found a more political voice in the realm of science and popular culture.
“You wouldn’t know how big a human egg was if it weren’t for microscopes, if it weren’t for scientists, medical researchers looking diligently. You apparently literally do not know what you’re talking about”. You wouldn’t have that shot, the famous shot or shots where the sperm are bumping up against the egg.
‘Nobody likes abortion, but you can’t tell someone what to do.
“At some point we have to respect the facts”.
In just four minutes and 37 seconds Nye completely debunks all the ridiculous claims about birth control, conception, abortion and abstinence that were founded on ignorance and the biblical ideologies that many people think hold weight in this day and age.
“Just really be objective about this”, Nye says. This is really – you can not help but notice. But since his new mission seems to be to inject scientific literacy into matters of policy, I think we can expect a lot more videos like this one in the future. Nye also said that closing abortion clinics and limiting birth control would not lead to healthy effect on society, and that women alone, should decide what to do with their bodies. “I understand that. But I really encourage you to look at the facts”.
