Billboard Names Lady Gaga 2015 Woman of the Year!
The decade-old event will be held on December. 11 at Cipriani Midtown in New York City, and aired later on Lifetime.
LOS ANGELES Lady Gaga was named woman of the year by music magazine Billboard after a 2015 that saw her channel Julie Andrews at the Oscars, tour with Tony Bennett and highlight the problem of college sexual assaults.
In an apparent effort to change things up from the whole “recognizing noteworthy musical accomplishments that happened over the course of the year” thing, though, the award is being given to Lady Gaga, an unquestionably talented performer who spent most of 2015 working as an actress on FX’s American Horror Story: Hotel.
The Women in Music event will be televised December 18 on Lifetime.
Liz Gateley, Lifetime’s Executive Vice President and Head of Programming told Billboard that the female-focused cable network is “delighted” with the partnership and in bringing the special event to a mass audience.
“Billboard’s Woman of the Year has always represented the finest in music, and the anointing of a key influential figure who drove the conversation for that year”.
Between the operatic chops Lady Gaga offered at this year’s Academy Awards and her grittier, avant-garde Artpop, the Cheek to Cheek singer has proven to have a perennial appeal.
“There is no woman dominating popular culture tastes and its evolution as much as she is today”, Min added, “What a force”. My gosh good morning!’ Taylor Swift was honored for the second time as Billboard’s Woman of the Year in 2014.
