Bills add another linebacker, Humber; cut kicker Jordan Gay
The Buffalo Bills continue to search for more depth, today claiming center Patrick Lewis off of waivers. At 5-foot-11 and 232 pounds, Humber established a niche playing special teams.
He signed a one-year deal with New England in the off-season but was released Tuesday when teams had to get down to 75 players. Humber began his career in 2009 with the Indianapolis Colts before then moving on to the New Orleans Saints during the 2010 season.
While Pro Football Focus gave him below average grades during his last two seasons, Lewis is only 25 years old and has 13 NFL starts under his belt. Humber, 29, has also been a force on special teams as he has racked up 50 solo special team tackles over his career.
Humber should be familiar with the Bills’ defense since he played in Rob Ryan’s system in New Orleans from 2013 through 2015.
The Bills also just traded for former Packers linebacker Lerentee McCray, as they’re trying to lend some depth to a spot plagued by injuries this preseason.
To make room on the roster the Bills released undrafted rookie OL Jamison Lalk.
Minus Gay, veteran Dan Carpenter is expected to take over both the placekicking and kickoff duties this season.
