Bills defensive tackle Dareus to enter rehab facility
Williams was also in hot water with the Bills after showing up to training camp overweight in June.
Running back Karlos Williams has run out of chances with the Buffalo Bills. It has been a controversy-filled offseason for the running back, culminating with a four-game suspension for violating the substance abuse policy.
The move comes five days after Williams was cleared for practice.
He blamed his extra bulk on being empathetic to his fiance and not wanting her to snack alone during her pregnancy. Whaley said Dareus was at the game, but would not play.
Head coach Rex Ryan said earlier this week that the Bills supported Williams despite his poor conditioning and suspension. Last year, he was suspended for the season opener for another violation of the policy.
His departure happened nearly as quickly as his ascension previous year during his rookie season.
While the off-the-field issues may have teams a bit reserved on signing him, Williams won’t be jobless for long.
Williams was considered a project when Buffalo drafted him in the fifth round out of Florida State. What he lacked was experience at the position after making the switch from safety during the 2013 season.
Last year, the fifth-round pick from Florida State rushed for 517 yards and seven touchdowns, and he tied an National Football League rookie record by scoring in each of his first six games. The Bills also have another fifth-round pick in former Arkansas back, Jonathan Williams who can possibly move up the depth chart.
Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Marcell Dareus, who is suspended for the first four games of the season for violating the NFL’s substance-abuse policy, announced less than an hour before kickoff of Saturday’s preseason game against the New York Giants that he is entering a rehabilitation facility.
