Bills DT Marcell Dareus expresses bitterness over contract talks
Per Vic Carucci of the Buffalo News, the Bills have offered over million to Dareus on a six-year extension to his current deal.
When asked to name a dollar amount that will keep him in Buffalo, Dareus said, “I’ll just say, ‘Thank you, Suh, ‘” referencing the record six-year, $114 million deal Suh signed with the Dolphins in free agency.
Speaking after his team’s second preseason game, Marcell Dareus said the team is “making it hard” to negotiate and isn’t offering him something close to his value. He undoubtedly wants to cross the $100 million threshold, something that’s realistic considering his recent play and a continually climbing salary cap. I feel like they don’t really want me here.
The Associated Press reported earlier Thursday, citing two people familiar with the negotiations, that the Bills’ talks with Dareus had reached a standstill.
The Buffalo Bills are rumored to be in danger of losing Marcell Dareus, with the All Pro defensive tackle now speaking publicly about the broken state of negotiations on a contract extension.
According to Tyler Dunne of the Buffalo News, it seems Dareus is getting increasingly frustrated with the process.
“I feel like they don’t want me here as bad as I want to be here, as bad as the fans and my team wants me here”. I feel like they’re saying, ‘Whatever. He deserves to be paid an elite-level contract, and his tactic on Thursday night, while fairly obvious, will nonetheless prove very effective in cranking up the public pressure on the Bills to simply pay their best player what he’s asking for.
“That just lets them know, hey now, ‘” said Dareus, laughing.
The Bills have not officially commented on the report, but have stated multiple times that re-signing Dareus is their highest priority.
The Bills aren’t just anxious about Dareus’ contract. They’re playing. They’re going back and forth. “I know what I’m worth”.
Dareus has been part of an aggressive defense that has combined for an NFL-leading 111 sacks over the past two seasons.
