Bills’ LeSean McCoy having test on injured left hamstring
Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy limped to the locker room with a left leg injury during Tuesday’s joint practice with the Cleveland Browns. In his press conference earlier today, Bills head coach Rex Ryan said the muscle was intact and not separated from the bone.
The injury occurred near the end of practice.
Ryan didn’t want to be pinned down on a timetable for how much time McCoy could miss. “Hopefully this is something that doesn’t set him back too far”.
McCoy suffered the injury while going through non-contact, seven-on-seven drills. He came out for practice in pads, but then returned to the locker room and came out again without pads.
The injury could be a big blow for the Bills after they acquired the two-time All-Pro in a trade that sent linebacker Kiko Alonso to Philadelphia in March. The former New York Jets coach took over the Bills in January, replacing Doug Marrone, who stepped down on December 31.
It has reached the point where running backs on the Buffalo Bills believe that some sort of evil spell has been cast over them. Seale had just signed earlier in the day after Karlos Williams was taken to a hospital and had an undisclosed medical procedure on Monday. Ryan did say Williams would be sidelined for “two weeks at least”, but would be ready for the Bills’ September 13 season-opener against Indianapolis. If he can improve on his blocking throughout the season, Gray could become a piece to the offense that will allow offensive coordinator Greg Roman to have a little fun with creative play calls.
“Quite honestly, we were out of running backs and receivers”, Ryan said. The Bills had to cut a 7-on-7 drill short after McCoy got injured, and the practice also ended a bit early on the field the Bills’ first-team offense was working on. For the first time, Rex Ryan categorized Fred Jackson’s hamstring injury as a “major” one.
Boobie Dixon, another veteran backup, is expected to miss another two weeks after pulling a calf muscle. Bryce Brown is also on the injury report, fittingly, with a hamstring injury like both McCoy and Jackson. “We’re getting an MRI on it”. If the top four do not play, the Bills will have Chris Hogan, Marquise Goodwin, Deonte Thompson, Andre Davis, Dez Lewis, and Tobais Palmer as their available wide receivers.
Sammy Watkins was held out of Tuesday night’s session with a tight glute that he developed Monday. Robert Woods “felt some tightness” and he also sat out. The Bills were also without Percy Harvin due to a hip injury, to which Rex Ryan admitted that was worse than they initially thought. He was unable to bend his left leg.
“Not going to say it is a pull, we will find out what it is”, Ryan said.
“I told Bronson you just never know”, Jackson said.
