Bills’ LeSean McCoy: I have nothing to say
The Buffalo Bills could not overcome 15 penalties and a costly first-half turnover in losing on the road to the Philadelphia Eagles this afternoon, 23-20. Jordan Matthews, who has scored in consecutive weeks, reeled in one of Bradford’s two touchdown passes versus the Patriots.
Buffalo’s running game has also forced opponents to bring the extra safety down in the box to slow the team’s ground attack and that affords more opportunities downfield in the pass game off play action.
A sarcastic kiss to the Eagles logo at midfield was the culmination of a year’s worth of shit-talking of his old team.
But McCoy wasn’t a happy camper when he left the Linc following the Bills’ 23-20 loss to the Eagles on Sunday afternoon. According to ESPN, McCoy “slammed his helmet against a wall in frustration and yelled obscenities as he entered the locker room”. We’re not enemies. I won’t say anything wrong to him. Buffalo faced 3rd-and-13 from the Eagles’ 33 when Taylor took off and ran for the first down.
McCoy has yet to talk to Kelly since he was traded to Buffalo in March. The 66 degrees at kickoff should make optimistic Eagles fans wonder if it will be this warm for the Super Bowl 50 on February 7 in Santa Clara.
“When he was here, he played hard”, Eagles center Jason Kelce said.
“Do I think that for most of the calls, did the officials get it right?”
The Bills answered with their own touchdown to tie the game at 7-7 heading to the second quarter.
But Ed Reynolds intercepted Bills quarterback Tyrod Taylor on a 3rd-and-8 play from Buffalo’s 33 with 1:16 left to seal the victory. “We moved the ball up and down the field and then we’d get a darn penalty”.
Bradford threw for 247 yards, including a 53-yard TD to Nelson Agholor. Leodis McKelvin leaped and snatched the ball away from Brent Celek at the 5. The Bills offensive line in particular just killed the Bills chances. “We had great confidence in them as a group”.
“I don’t know how many holding calls, but it was probably a record out there”, Head Coach Rex Ryan said. “Penalties – we’ve got ourselves to blame”. Earlier in drive, Taylor linked up with Robert Woods for 32 yards. Jaylen Watkins distracted Bills return man Marcus Thigpen enough for Bryan Braman to recover the muff.
Later in the second quarter, Dan Carpenter converted from 38 yards out to make it 14-10. He extended the lead to 20-10 on a 41-yarder on the first possession in the third quarter.
NOTES: Bills were missing rookie RB Karlos Williams and three starters: CB Stephon Gilmore, LB Nigel Bradham, OL Seantrel Henderson. Matthews did not practice on Tuesday for the Eagles and he had just three catches against the Bills in Week 14.
