Bills let emotions get best of them in loss to Patriots
With Brady at the top of his game, this past Sunday was no different. If anything, ESPNBoston.com’s Mike Reiss said New England proved that all the talk leading up to Sunday is pretty cheap when it comes time for kickoff. “Again it wasn’t just Dareus, the entire defensive line couldn’t get to Brady”. It showed that we’re not the best … we act like we are, but we aren’t right now. So obviously there’s a million negative things that we’ve got to get corrected, yet I love the fighting spirit of our team and the heart that our team has. We thought that would give us a little bit of an advantage. But shoot, it’s to their credit.
Still, that didn’t quell Ryan’s irritation regarding what happened.
“If you make mistakes against a good team, they burn you”, Ryan said, “and clearly that team did….” I mean, we moved the ball and must have had 500 yards out there.
“We did a horse**** job”, Rex told members of the media.
His players agreed that the performance was basically disgraceful.
Ryan said Monday he has to do a better job “recognizing that we’ve got to have that controlled emotion and that aggression and things like that. Our team will get better, but it starts with me getting better and I’m looking forward to next week”. It’s that simple. Even when the Bills closed the gap, it wasn’t because of anything Ryan did.
Tom Brady proceeded by taking the air out of the stadium, and deflated the hope of Bills fans by marching the Patriots 62-yards in a no-huddle drive in just over two minutes for a touchdown. Ryan’s experience against the Patriots was one of the selling points in his coming to Buffalo.
Without any huge game-breaking plays, the Patriots picked Ryan’s defense a part, quick pass after quick pass. Brady ended up 38-of-59, with 466-yards and 3 touchdowns.
Tom Brady’s precision with the ball and mastery of the Bills’ defense is the major reason for Buffalo’s first loss of 2015. We did a lot of things well, but there’s certainly a lot of things we need to do better, so concentrate on that. He finished going 23 of 30 for 242 yards, with three touchdowns and three interceptions. As far as the other team, they’re going to make plays. Taylor scrambled to find receiver Robert Woods for a 32-yard touchdown on Buffalo’s first drive of the fourth quarter. LeSean McCoy, who was listed as questionable due to his sore hamstring, played well with 89 yards on 15 carries plus three catches for 27 yards. And then they hung on after the Bills (1-1) mounted a 19-point fourth-quarter rally that eventually fell short. The Patriots (2-0) took control by scoring three touchdowns in less than six-minutes spanning the first and second quarters. Gronk’s four receiving touchdowns are tops in the league and he’s now third in receiving yards with 207. His three touchdowns leave him one shy of 400 in his career, and fourth on the all time list, behind the likes of Dan Marino, Brett Farve, and Peyton Manning. The Bills took a ton of penalties.
BY THE NUMBERS: Edelman scored twice, tight end Rob Gronkowski also had a TD receiving, while Dion Lewis scored on a 6-yard run for New England.
Brady threw for more yards (466) than anyone has against Buffalo in its franchise history. Defensively, they didn’t really blitz the whole first half. The Bills were just a point underdogs in this one, meaning the game was almost a toss-up.
“We just can’t have that many penalties”, Bills defensive end Jerry Hughes said.
COACHING: F – Offensive coordinator Greg Roman scripted a flawless opening drive that resulted in a TD, but thereafter it got much more hard against the adjusting Patriots.
