Bills run over Cowboys
Gillislee has scored three times in four games – including a 60-yarder in a 35-25 loss at Washington last weekend – since being promoted off of Buffalo’s practice squad.
The Bills combined for 236 yards on the ground, with Gillislee leading the way at 93 yards. Darren McFadden ran for 99 yards.
The high praise comes because the run game has been injured and half strength as Williams, McCoy and Taylor have missed games this season, but it still has made strides, scoring a hoat of touchdowns and taking pressure off a still shaky passing game.
“Sometimes on third down you have to go get them and keep the drive alive, ” said Taylor with his no-big-deal demeanor. “Quite honestly, I think that play right”, is “one of the reasons we won the game”.
Rookie linebacker A.J. Tarpley had an interception and sealed the win by forcing Lucky Whitehead to fumble on the kickoff return that followed Gillislee’s touchdown.
The Bills victory helped them improve to 7-8 on the season.
“Our coaches are really good at scheming for our running backs”, Taylor said just minutes after Ryan complimented Lynn.
Weeden’s response: “I mean yeah, absolutely”.
The Buffalo Bills (6-8) host the Dallas Cowboys (4-10) in a Week 16 matchup.
Kellen Moore will make his first career start for the Cowboys (4-10) who have never been the same since losing Tony Romo in Week 2.
He ran 14 times for 67 yards and with 517 for the season broke Flutie’s mark of 476 set in 1999. “Didn’t look like a guy starting his first National Football League game, that’s for sure”.
In what was looking like a two-game tryout for next year’s backup quarterback role, Kellen Moore did more than what Matt Cassel or Brandon Weeden did, and that involved him actually looking downfield before dumping off passes. This is the first time in the journeyman quarterback’s career that he’s recorded more wins than losses as a starter.
MISSED KICKS: Bills kicker Dan Carpenter missed his fifth extra-point attempt of the season – and fourth in seven games – after Williams’ touchdown. Both teams are already out of the playoff race and the only thing that should motivate them is the kind of future that lies ahead. He also threw one interception on a pass that was tipped into the air by a wide receiver. His left leg was placed into a cast, his face was covered with a towel, and he was removed from the field of play on the back of a cart. Over their last three games the Bills have been a bottom five pass defense, allowing 270+ yards per game to opposing quarterbacks. The drive ended in a 50-yard field goal attempted that was short.
The Odds: The Bills are 6 point favorites against the Cowboys. TE Jason Witten has reception in 117 consecutive games, tied with Hall of Fame WR Michael Irvin for longest in team history….
Moore will be without Dez Bryant who is now listed as doubtful with a foot issue for this week’s’ game. Watkins does get to match up against Morris Claiborne this week who has been exploitable.
