Bills safety Aaron Williams suffers scary neck injury, leaves game in ambulance
Pro Football Talk questioned the Bills’ game presentation in a report Sunday night following Buffalo’s 40-32 loss to New England at Ralph Wilson Stadium. “His part in this loss, I would say, was probably a little bit more minimal when compared to the defense’s ability to get to Brady“.
“We were going to put it on our front four“, said Ryan. When Brady and the Patriots took the field, loud chants of CHEAT-ERS gave way to general screaming designed to drown out communication for New England.
Ryan’s signature defense surrendered 466 passing yards to Brady, the most any Bills team has surrendered to any quarterback. Maybe Ryan will find himself on the rebound in Buffalo the way Belichick found himself on the rebound in Foxborough. As is typical for Brady, his favorite targets were tight end Rob Gronkowski and wide receiver Julian Edelman, who combined to catch 18 passes for 210 yards and three touchdowns. It isn’t because Tyrod is new to the game. Starting three rookies in the interior, David Andrews at Center, Shaq Mason and Josh Kline at Guard, the Patriots also rotated in veteran Ryan Wendell and Tre Jackson. At one point in the third quarter, the Bills trailed 37-13 in what appeared to be a blowout. Same old result. They need a lot of work. Instead of opting to blitz Brady, the Bills’ defenders dropped into coverage hoping the defensive line would create pressure.
New England Patriots running back Dion Lewis (33) celebrates a touchdown as Buffalo Bills’ Ronald Darby (28) and Corey Graham (20) react during the first half of an NFL football game Sunday, September 20, 2015, in Orchard Park, N.Y. Karlos Williams wasn’t used much because the Bills needed McCoy in the passing game when they fell behind, but Williams did score the game’s first touchdowns. For an offensive that is supposed to be concentrating on the run game, they can’t even get the top rusher over 100 yards.
What can Ryan do to stop the penalties?
The 14 penalties amounted for 140 yards, with five of them either being personal fouls, unnecessary roughness, taunting or unsportsmanlike conduct. The other possession came to a halt when a Tyrod Taylor pass intended for Charles Clay was intercepted by Super Bowl XLIX hero Malcom Butler. There is no excuse for that.
With the momentum on Buffalo’s side, Brady put together a game-clinching scoring drive – with a hat tip to Amendola, who made an incredible 29-yard catch. “But you nearly have to not completely lose your mind and stay under control”. That’s the responsibility of the rushers to not let those plays get extended and the responsibility of the players in coverage to finish the play. It doesn’t matter how much talent you have, if you cause penalties, you are a liability.
2 – Times in his career Tom Brady has thrown for more than 700 yards and seven TDs in the first two games of a season (he also did it in 2011). In usual Belichick fashion, the Patriots walked into the Bills stadium and poured on over 500 yards of offense on a vaunted Rex Ryan defense.
For a few moments, it looked like Ryan and his band of bullies could back up all the noise they made in the week leading up to the matchup.
Back to reality, Buffalo fans. Think about it: Who’s the last head coach/manager with an all-over-the-place personality to win multiple championships in a major team sport? The offensive line has to change its tune that has been sung for more than a decade.
