Bills will face Moore as Cowboys starting QB
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Kellen Moore will get the start in Week 16 against the Buffalo Bills, head coach Jason Garrett announced, via Charean Williams of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
The most likely scenario is that Moore is able to convince the Cowboys that he can step for a few games, if needed, and actually give the team a solid chance at victory on each occasion.
Let’s call it a C-minus for the first three quarters and an A-plus for the final one, which is the one that really counted.
“Offensively, we felt like he did some good things for us”, Garrett said Monday. The deep ball was all that was left and no quarterback was going to save the day while having to travel that far while also only using the passing game with no timeouts – that’s just football.
Powell is invaluable to this team: he can pass protect, win in the screen game, break tackles and make a play when the Jets need it most. The UCF product led the team once again with 4 receptions for 74 yards, while the former Minnesota standout finished second in that department with six grabs for 55 yards and a score.
“It was not an easy situation just because I’ve been here to support Matt in any way and help him”, Moore said.
The New York Jets defeated the Dallas Cowboys 19-16 in ugly fashion in week 15.
Moore completed 15 of 25 passes for 158 yards with a touchdown and three interceptions in eight series of work in the 19-16 loss to the New York Jets.
His numbers against the Bills: 60-for-98, 611 yards, five touchdowns and one interception (91.84).
“I’ve been 6-feet, 200 pounds for a long time, ” said Moore, who was 50-3 as a starter at Boise State but may be exaggerating those other numbers. In fact, he barely made it into the second quarter. [Offensive coordinator] Scott [Linehan] was around him in Detroit and had firsthand experience with him and that certainly has given us maybe a little bit of an advantage in our evaluation of him and that’s why we brought him here. Romo will likely go on IR, with no reason to do otherwise…. When he couldn’t beat out Dan Orlovsky, he was cut. Another regressing quarterback Brock Osweiler led the Broncos to three wins since taking over for Peyton Manning and most damning Weeden led the Houston Texans to a win over the Colts on Sunday giving them the lead in the AFC South. The Cowboys began their season with Tony Romo as their starter, but turned to backup Brandon Weeden when the veteran suffered a broken collarbone in Week 2 against the Eagles.
