Bills WR Watkins set to make return
Jaguars: Host Denver on December 4.
The Buffalo Bills went to 5-5 with a 16-12 victory at the Cincinnati Bengals, bringing to an end a three game losing streak.
– As the week started up, Bills head coach Rex Ryan declared that they’ve been using Lorenzo Alexander far too much, and that they also want to get first-round pick Shaq Lawson more involved in the defensive game plans. Bills that played for the Seminoles include QB EJ Manuel, TE Nick O’Leary, CB Ron Darby, and LS Garrison Sanborn.
After returning to his first limited practice in more than two months Wednesday, Watkins declared himself fully healthy and said he finally has confidence in his surgically-repaired foot.
After suffering a setback two weeks into the season which resulted in Watkins being placed on injured reserve the Bills and Watkins are playing it safe when it comes to his full return. But, since the Jaguars don’t even have a rusher among the league’s top 19 runners (compared to Buffalo’s three), that may not be the road to a win.
The Jaguars’ offense squandered numerous first-half opportunities, punting twice from inside Bills territory and missing another chance when Hurns dropped a long pass from Blake Bortles that would have given the Jaguars a first down deep in Bills territory. Robert Woods is likely out for Sunday’s game against the Jaguars. In his defense, however, he’s not had the best.well….defense from his offensive line.
Running back LeSean McCoy (left thumb) is also expected to play.
Mathews was coming off his best effort of the season, rushing for 109 yards and a pair of touchdowns in a win over Atlanta in Week 10, and had 31 yards on seven carries against the Seahawks before he was hurt. The Jaguars’ fifth-ranked pass defense is deceiving; they don’t give up a lot of yards because so often, the opposition is ahead in the fourth quarter and is just trying to run out the clock, so they don’t bother to throw. Trailing 7-6, the Bills need to figure things out quickly.
SACK ATTACK: The Jaguars’ Malik Jackson had two of Jacksonville’s five sacks – their second-best total of the season. If one is being positive then a team that has lost their last five, like Jacksonville, should be motivated to change that.
Bills K Dan Carpenter.
Buffalo faces a mistake-prone Jaguars offense that leads the National Football League with 22 giveaways, including 13 interceptions by Blake Bortles, and has topped 24 points just once this season. For his efforts, he was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for the sixth time. Nothing was working. The Bills were down 7-0 and fans might have mentally been adding this game to the long list of heart stomping, soul stealing losses. He was also the team’s leading rusher with 80 yards. Yeldon, who burned the Bills for 115 yards and a touchdown in London, and tight end Julius Thomas have not practiced this week. They allowed 153 rushing yards and 166 passing yards.
The Bills have had three of their last four games decided by 6 points or less.
