Billy Joel to join Cuomo on NY breast cancer motorcycle ride
Famed musician Billy Joel is on the motorcycle tour with him and Lee.
In addition to the ride, the governor is also expected to sign legislation Monday that expands screening hours at hospitals and requires insurance companies to eliminate deductibles and copays for the screening – along with other diagnostic tests. He was joined by longtime girlfriend Sandra Lee.
Estrada says that because she was screened and her cancer detected was early, she was successfully treated at Brookdale Hospital’s new breast center. Insurers will be prohibited from applying a deductible, co-pay or co-insurance payments to any mammogram screening – even if the screenings are more frequent than recommended in federal guidelines, Gannett Albany reported.
On Monday, Governor Cuomo launched the first statewide breast cancer motorcycle ride to raise awareness of the disease across New York State.
Also riding Monday, along with hundreds of others, will be Sandra Lee, Cuomo’s domestic partner and a breast cancer survivor.
It’s all part of Cuomo’s new “Get Screened, No Excuses” campaign, which aims to eliminate the obstacles women face that can prevent them from getting cancer screenings.
