Bitter cold temperatures, chance of snow ahead for the midstate
Once the weak cold front passes, Austin-area temperatures will cool down on Saturday and top out near 71, still above normal, but cooler than in previous days.
Just how cold will it get? Friday night: Increasing clouds, with a low around -9.
Tuesday – Mostly cloudy with a chance of showers in the morning…Then partly sunny in the afternoon. Wind chills likely will be in the single digits. “These temperatures can be life threatening – especially for seniors, infants and people with medical conditions”, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said. He warned that frozen and burst water pipes are likely, and could lead to property damage.
Inconvenient Weather: Bitterly cold tonight and into the weekend. Accumulations will be light, but some may see reduced visibility with snow showers for those driving in the evening.

TUESDAY: Mostly cloudy skies and scattered snow showers and a wintry mix will linger, with high temperatures around 40 degrees. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.
Wind will also become a problem on Sunday, mostly in areas west of Sioux Falls.
Friday will bring a 40 percent chance for snow with a high of around 33. Partly sunny, with a high near 24. A wind chill watch is in effect from late Friday night through late Sunday morning. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 14. Southwest wind 10 to 15 miles per hour. Chance of precipitation 60 percent.
Snow or sleet accumulation of up to 1 inch is possible, along with a trace of ice.
Friday-A chance of snow showers, mainly after 1pm. However, many parts of the state had much more snow. Chance of precipitation is 50%.
Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 15. Low of 5 degrees. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 30. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 26. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
