Bitter Eid: Pakistan broke tradition and refused to exchange sweets, alleges
Amid tension at the border, Pakistan refuses to accept candies from India on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr at the Attari-Wagah joint check post.
The custom was damaged as soon as final October but candies have been exchanged on a few different events.
It has been a tradition with the BSF and the Pakistan Rangers on the Wagah border to exchange candies on each other’s festivals such as Eid and Diwali.
In the wake of repeated ceasefire violations by Pakistani Rangers, India has warned Pakistan of “effective and forceful” response to unprovoked firing and cross-border terrorism. There have been multiple casualties due to the firing.
Reports said the firing began from the Pakistani side at around 1.40 pm on Saturday afternoon and is still underway. Generally, both border guarding forces exchange candies and greet each other on various religious festivals besides Independence Day and Republic Day to maintain harmony on the border and for coordination.
They also extended greetings on the occasion.
