Protests broke out and turned violent in Jammu and Kashmir as a three-day shutdown was called from Friday to press for setting up of AIIMS in the region.
>Jammu, August 2, (Scoop News)-Jammu and its peripheries on Sunday continued to observe a total shutdown on the third consecutive day over the AIIMS issue and the situation remained peaceful and no untoward incident was reported from any place of the region.

The reproduction of the story/photograph in any form will be liable for legal action. We should get the same AIIMS in Jammu as of Kashmir. However, The AIIMS Coordination Committee alleged that the participants of its “peaceful” procession were deliberately attacked by BJP “goons” and that the police played a partisan role.
District Magistrate of Jammu imposed Section 144 and to contain protesters, police used batons and teargas shells after protesters allegedly tried to force their way into the BJP office in the Kachi Chaawni area.
Senior BJP leader and J&K’s deputy chief minister Dr Nirmal Singh had given a written assurance that AIIMS would be announced before July 21.
Normal life was hit as shops, public transport and other businesses were adversely affected. Raising slogans against the dubious BJP stand and diversionary tactics of the Centre and the Coalition Government, they torched an effigy to show anger of the people.
Sharma alleged that BJP workers resorted to stone pelting on the ACC activists in which “several ACC members were also injured”.
The people of Jammu region would observe 72-hour-long bandh from tomorrow in case the BJP fails to deliver its commitment by today, he said.
Sharma said that the Union health ministry has decided to provide similar AIIMS-like facilities in both the regions of the state with separate directors at the helm of affairs.
