BJP distance from RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s call for quota review
He also contended in his suggestion that though the interest groups are formed in the democracy but aspirations of one community shouldn’t be met at the cost of others.
The recent comments by RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat on issue of reservation clearly shows that he thinks that present status of the reservation policy is not right.
RJD chief Lalu Prasad on Monday dared RSS and BJP to end the reservation policy, if they have strength.
“Now, (amid the Patel stir) Mohan Bhagwatji made a statement that reservation system should be reviewed. Whatever Bhagwat has said is final and there is no other thought”, he said, charging the BJP with being against reservations.
Bhagwat had recently, in an interview to Sangh journals “Organiser” and “Panchjanya“, held that the issue of reservation has been used for political ends and suggested setting up of an apolitical committee to examine as to which categories require it and for how long.
Pointing to the demands of reservation by castes like Patels and Jats, Jain said even those communities which were socially and economically strong have demanded benefits of reservation which, he added, was a “bad omen” for society.
Jammu: Hours after Nitish Kumar described RSS as the BJP’s “supreme court”, party general secretary Ram Madhav on Wednesday hit back and alleged that the JD(U) leader took orders and permission from Sonia Gandhi and Lalu Yadav and they were his “two supreme courts”.
Similarly, the grand alliance has focused on its old narrative of bringing together the Muslims and Yadavs under the Lalu Prasad-led RJD and the Mahadalits under Kumar’s JD(U). “Both the BJP and the anti-BJP alliance are trying to divide the society on the basis of caste”, said Shashi Sharma, head of the political science department at Patna University. Accusations being leveled against the Modi government of attempts to saffronize education, Bhagwat said the education policy needed changes based on “truth and authenticity” and that there be should be minimal interference from those in power.
In short, he gave vent to the prevalent feeling among a large section of the people who too have come to the conclusion that reservations as a policy tool is more about partisan politics than about improving the socio-economic lot of the targeted groups. “By making such statements, he actually wanted to create a controversy on reservation system”, alleged the Leader of Opposition. It is often forgotten that the founding fathers had provided for reservations for the SCs and STs only for the first decade of the Constitution.
