BJP slams ‘under pressure’ AAP’s odd-even vehicle rule formula

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday said the city government was forced to take the “drastic step” of only allowing private vehicles on alternate days due to panic triggered by the increasing pollution in the capital.

“A sort of panic was created that the pollution has increased so much that something drastic has to be done”, Kejriwal said.

The Delhi High Court had also said earlier this week that living in the city was like “living in a gas chamber”.

Mr Kejriwal also said that reducing the number of cars on the capital’s roads is not the only measure that the government has planned to bring down pollution.

Public Works Department Minister Satyendra Jain announced that private vehicles with odd registration numbers will ply on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and those with even numbers on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from January 1. “We can walk down or even take a bus”.

Jain, who can also be PWD and well being minister, stated there’s a want to take strict measures to clear the town’s poisonous air and even-odd method will even be relevant on all ministers and bureaucrats within the national capital area.

The Delhi Congress also alleged that the odd-even vehicle number formula is “pre-mature, “ill-conceived and without preparations”. I may also use my automotive on alternate days and will use carpooling service on different days”, Jain stated.
